Union Pacific partnered with Peabody, Ferromex, port operators to test exporting Powder River Basin coal via Mexico’s Port of Guaymas.
Shipments moved from Peabody’s North Antelope Mine in Wyoming, interchanged to Ferromex at Nogales, Arizona, then railed to Guaymas.
Coal was loaded onto vessels for Asia, with the first shipment bound for Vietnam.
Multiple trains have run, with partners assessing market conditions for potential follow-on export shipments.
