Universal Technical Institute Appoints Balderree to Lead 113,000 sq ft Salt Lake City Campus
UTI•Universal Technical Institute has appointed John Balderree as Campus President of its 113,000 sq ft Salt Lake City campus, set to open in 2027. The facility will serve over 3,000 students across seven technical programs as part of UTI’s Phase II North Star expansion strategy through 2029.
1. Leadership Appointment
Universal Technical Institute has named John Balderree as Campus President of its forthcoming Salt Lake City facility. Balderree brings experience from BYU Pathway Worldwide, Western Governors University and previous roles at UTI and DeVry, focusing on student services, admissions, operations and retention.
2. Campus Facilities and Programs
The Salt Lake City campus will occupy nearly 113,000 square feet at River Point Plaza in West Jordan and accommodate more than 3,000 students. Programs slated for launch include Aviation Maintenance Technology; Automotive and Diesel; multiple Electrical and Industrial disciplines; HVACR; and Welding, pending regulatory approvals.
3. Strategic Expansion Strategy
This opening is part of UTI’s multi-year North Star plan, currently in Phase II, which aims to launch multiple campuses annually from 2026 to 2029. The strategy emphasizes growth, diversification and operational optimization to address the national skilled labor shortage.
