UPS opened a $100 million logistics centre in Taoyuan, its largest Asia Pacific facility near the island’s international airport, to handle 80% high-tech freight for TSMC. The site will also serve as Applied Materials’ Asian distribution centre and may launch flights to Kaohsiung to support TSMC’s new southern factory cluster.

1. New Taoyuan Logistics Centre

UPS has invested $100 million to establish its largest Asia Pacific logistics centre in Taoyuan, positioned near Taiwan’s main international airport. The facility expands the company’s freight capacity and underscores growing demand from lead semiconductor manufacturers.

2. Benefits for TSMC Shipments

Approximately 80% of the centre’s throughput is dedicated to high-tech cargo, notably components and equipment for TSMC. This dedicated hub is expected to streamline inbound and outbound freight operations, reducing transit times.

3. Applied Materials Asian Hub

The Taoyuan site doubles as an Asian distribution centre for Applied Materials, the premier U.S. semiconductor equipment maker. This co-location brings critical wafer fabrication tools closer to Taiwan’s chip production heartland.

4. Potential Kaohsiung Expansion

UPS is evaluating new flight routes to Kaohsiung to align with customer demand, particularly to serve TSMC’s upcoming southern Taiwan factory cluster. This could further diversify logistics options across the island’s semiconductor belt.
