Ur-Energy Launches Shirley Basin Operations, Adds 2.0M-Pound Annual Capacity
Ur-Energy has begun uranium extraction at its Shirley Basin ISR Project in Wyoming after completing construction, wellfield installation and permitting. The site offers 2.0 million-pound annual licensed capacity and holds 9.1 million pounds of measured and indicated U3O8 resources with an estimated nine-year mine life.
1. Operations Commence at Shirley Basin
Ur-Energy initiated uranium recovery at the Shirley Basin ISR Project in central Wyoming, capturing solution from Mine Unit 1 after finalizing construction, wellfield installation and regulatory approvals. Resin loaded with uranium will be transported to the Lost Creek facility for processing pending an additional inspection this summer.
2. Project Capacity and Resources
The Shirley Basin site holds measured and indicated resources of approximately 9.1 million pounds of U3O8 at an average grade of 0.22% and carries a licensed wellfield and toll processing capacity of 2.0 million pounds annually. The operation is designed for a nine-year mine life across three shallow mining units.
3. Strategic Integration and Outlook
The project leverages existing infrastructure by moving uranium-loaded resin to the Lost Creek facility for final processing, drying and packaging, bringing combined annual capacity to 4.2 million pounds. This expansion positions Ur-Energy to increase domestic uranium supply as nuclear energy demand grows.
