US cash crude grades mixed as hurricane disrupts Gulf of Mexico output, onshore rig count up
USO•US Gulf producers shut in about 1.5 million barrels per day of oil and 1.3 billion cubic feet per day of natural gas as Hurricane Isaias approached, while oil rigs rose by six to 462, their highest since May 2025.
1. Hurricane disrupts output
US Gulf producers shut in about 1.5 million barrels per day of oil and 1.3 billion cubic feet per day of natural gas as Hurricane Isaias moved toward the coast. The shut-ins represented nearly 72% of Gulf oil production and 59% of Gulf natural gas production.
2. Rig counts rise
Oil rigs rose by six to 462, their highest since May 2025, while gas rigs fell by one to 132, their lowest since mid-September. In the Permian, the rig count rose by four to 274, its highest since June 2025.
3. Crude prices mixed
Mars Sour fell 35 cents and WTI Midland fell 10 cents, while West Texas Sour rose 25 cents. Brent futures settled up 44 cents at $104.72 a barrel, and WTI futures rose 36 cents to $91.85.
