U.S. crude inventories fall sharply
U.S. crude stocks fell while gasoline and distillate inventories rose last week, the Energy Information Administration said on Wednesday.
Crude inventories fell by 7.2 million barrels to 404.5 million barrels in the week ended July 24, the EIA said, compared with analysts' expectations in a Reuters poll for a 1.3 million-barrel draw.
Crude stocks at the Cushing, Oklahoma, delivery hub USOICC=ECI fell by 771,000 barrels in the week, the EIA said.
Refinery activity and product stocks
Refinery crude runs USOICR=ECI rose by 271,000 barrels per day last week, the EIA said. Refinery utilization rates USOIRU=ECI rose by 1.1 percentage points in the week to 97.2%.
