US energy department official says working with refiners on producing more diesel
USO•A US Energy Department official said the government is working with refiners to increase diesel production and with allies on releasing 50 million barrels. The International Energy Agency said last week it would accelerate releases that include more than 20 million barrels of diesel.
1. Refiners and diesel supply
Energy Department Under Secretary Kyle Haustveit said the US is working with refiners to find ways to increase diesel throughput. He said the Trump administration was also working with allies on releasing diesel and had worked with Europe on a 50 million-barrel release.
2. Planned stockpile releases
An agreement by industrialized nations fell short of the administration’s push for a 50 million-barrel level. The International Energy Agency said it would speed releases pledged in March, including more than 20 million barrels of diesel as soon as possible; IEA chief Fatih Birol said the group was ready to coordinate further releases if needed.
