US FAA reportedly set to convene review of Boeing 737 MAX software issue on Friday
BA•The FAA is set to review a software issue that could prevent pilots from accessing automated flight guidance during one landing scenario. If the board clears the plane, officials said the 737 MAX 10 could be certified later this month.
1. FAA review scheduled
The FAA is scheduled to convene a Corrective Action Review Board on Friday to review a software issue affecting Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. The FAA delayed certification of the 737 MAX 10 until it completes its analysis.
2. Software update planned
The issue could increase pilot workload during a go-around, when a pilot aborts a landing attempt and climbs to try again. Boeing said it had informed operators and was developing a software update to permanently address the problem; it could also propose additional pilot training.
3. Officials see no concern
Airline officials said they did not believe the board would find a safety issue. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said he did not currently see a safety concern and that the agency saw no need to ground the 737 MAX fleet.
