US Fed's Barkin says it's a ‘close call’ on whether rates are high enough, WSJ reports
TLT•Barkin says the Fed's rate setting may be restrictive enough
July 31 (Reuters) - Richmond Fed President Tom Barkin told the Wall Street Journal on Friday that it is "a close call" on whether the central bank's interest-rate setting is high enough to bring inflation down.
"I think there is a strong case there" for adding restraint and taking back some of last year's rate cuts, he told the newspaper in an interview published on Friday. He also said that price increases are moving through the economy unevenly.
