US green card suspension poses little risk to Indian IT, analysts say
CTSH•Indian IT firms are unlikely to face near-term fallout from the US suspension of the PERM green-card program, analysts said, citing reduced reliance on the pathway. Indian IT firms accounted for less than 2% of PERM applications filed between October 2024 and September 2025.
1. Limited near-term impact
Analysts said Indian IT firms are unlikely to face near-term fallout from the US suspension of the Permanent Labor Certification program. ICICI Securities said the move could weigh on sentiment and raise longer-term talent-retention concerns, but was not expected to have an immediate revenue impact.
2. Industry response
Nasscom said Indian IT firms have significantly reduced their dependence on H-1B visas and expanded local hiring in the United States. TCS said it did not expect the suspension to affect its workforce strategy or client engagements, citing single-digit PERM applications over the past two years.
3. Uncertainty for sector
India’s foreign ministry said the US steps do not advance the countries’ shared ambitions and described Indian professionals as skilled contributors to the US economy and innovation ecosystem. Bajaj Broking’s Sumit Singhania said the development adds uncertainty, and that increased reliance on US talent and subcontracting could raise hiring and compliance costs.
