U.S. job openings fall to 7.079 million in August
SPY•U.S. job openings fell to 7.079 million in August from a revised 7.335 million in July, while the openings rate declined to 4.3% from 4.4%.
1. Openings decline
The U.S. Labor Department reported 7.079 million job openings in August, down from a revised 7.335 million in July and above 6.919 million a year earlier. The job openings rate was 4.3%, compared with 4.4% in July and 4.2% in August 2025.
2. Hiring and separations
Hires totaled 5.192 million in August, while separations were 5.070 million. Quits numbered 3.066 million, and layoffs and discharges totaled 1.641 million.
