US jury says Apple owes record $5.7 billion in haptic technology patent case
AAPL•A US jury ruled that Apple owes Taction more than $5.7 billion for infringing two patents with haptic technology in iPhones and Apple Watches. Apple said it would appeal.
1. Jury finds infringement
The jury found that Apple’s Taptic Engine, which creates tapping vibrations, infringed two Taction patents. Apple said its technology is fundamentally different, denied using Taction’s technology and said it would appeal the verdict. Taction filed the lawsuit in 2021, and an appeals court revived the case last year after a judge ruled for Apple in 2023.
