A US military aircraft fired precision munitions at the stern of a St. Kitts-flagged cargo vessel after it tried to leave regional waters following a visit to an Iranian port, US Central Command said. US forces had directed the crew to abandon targeted spaces.
The military also said it is launching a task force to crack down on Iran’s movement of advanced weapons and other sanctioned material across its land borders and through the Caspian Sea. Central Command estimated the naval blockade has prevented Iran from exporting more than $25 billion in crude oil.
US President Donald Trump has threatened a new offensive against Iran, while Tehran has threatened broad retaliation against Gulf infrastructure.
