US natgas prices fall to 14-week low before storage report
UNG•Futures fall ahead of bearish storage report
U.S. natural gas futures eased to a 14-week low on Thursday ahead of a bearish federal report expected to show energy firms last week added more gas than usual into storage for a third week in a row.
Front-month gas futures for September delivery on the New York Mercantile Exchange fell 2.6 cents, or 1%, to $2.662 per million British thermal units (mmBtu), putting the contract on track for its lowest close since April 29.
Analysts forecast energy firms added 31 billion cubic feet (bcf) of gas to storage during the week ended July 31. That compares with an increase of 13 bcf during the same week last year and a five-year (2021-2025) average increase of 23 bcf for the period.
