US stock futures steady as oil retreats ahead of earnings and Fed decision
SPY•US stock futures were little changed as oil prices eased and investors prepared for a week of corporate earnings and the Federal Reserve’s rate decision. Dow futures rose 0.37%, S&P 500 futures gained 0.07% and Nasdaq 100 futures fell 0.06%.
1. Futures little changed
US stock index futures were little changed on Monday as investors weighed lower crude prices and prepared for a busy week of earnings and the Federal Reserve’s interest-rate decision. About one-third of S&P 500 companies are scheduled to report, including Alphabet, Microsoft and Amazon.
2. AI stocks under pressure
Investors are looking for signs that large AI investments are paying off after a muted reception to last week’s results from Meta and Tesla. CoreWeave and Nebius fell 5.4% and 3.9%, respectively, after Elon Musk predicted neocloud consolidation; IREN and Applied Digital also dropped more than 3%.
3. Fed and economic data
The Fed’s rate decision is due Wednesday, with a pause widely expected after its September hike. September’s Personal Consumption Expenditures index and third-quarter GDP data, expected to show 3.2% growth, are due Thursday.
