US stocks close higher as investors turn toward value
SPY•US stocks closed higher Thursday, with the Dow up 1.1%, the S&P 500 gaining 0.3% and the Nasdaq rising 0.1%. Healthcare led S&P 500 sectors, while energy was the weakest group.
1. Value stocks lead
Wall Street closed higher as investors weighed strong economic data and rising US oil prices against lower Treasury yields and continued weakness in AI-related stocks. Value stocks outperformed growth stocks, while the Dow gained more than the S&P 500 and Nasdaq.
2. Chips continue slide
Chip stocks fell for a seventh straight session, leaving the semiconductor index down 12.4% over that period, though it remained up 63.5% for the year. The S&P 500 was up 13.1% over the same period. WTI crude settled up 3.0%, while Brent crude fell 0.1%.
