US stocks end week higher as focus shifts to earnings, inflation
SPY•Major US stock indexes ended Friday higher, with the Dow up about 0.8%. For the week, the S&P 500 gained 1.2%, the Dow rose 0.9% and the Nasdaq added 0.65%, as investors looked ahead to earnings and inflation data.
1. Stocks rise Friday
Wall Street finished higher Friday, with real estate leading S&P 500 sector gainers and communication services the weakest group. The S&P 500 Equal Weight Index ended a seven-week losing streak, while value stocks outperformed growth stocks for the first time in four weeks.
2. Weekly market moves
For the week, the Nasdaq Composite rose for a fourth consecutive week, while the Russell 2000 fell for a fifth consecutive week. The 10-year US Treasury yield edged up to about 5.24%; gold gained about 1.5%, while US crude was roughly flat.
