US Stocks-Wall St futures recover as oil slides ahead of inflation test
SPY•Oil, diesel prices and Treasury yields
Brent crude futures LCOc1 slipped more than 3% but were still above $103 a barrel. West Texas Intermediate crude futures CLc1 slipped 3.5% but were close to the $100-a-barrel mark.
"The surge in energy prices since the turn of the month creates new upside risk for inflation," said Bill Adams, chief U.S. economist at Fifth Third Commercial Bank.
The U.S. national average price of diesel on Thursday surpassed $6 a gallon for the first time ever, according to price tracker GasBuddy.
Separately, the yield on the 10-year U.S. Treasury note US10YT=RR dipped 0.16 basis points but was still at 4.9424%, its highest since 2023. High yields on Treasuries lower the appeal of stocks.
