US stocks-Wall Street ends lower as Iran tensions dampen risk appetite; chipmakers drop

The Dow Jones Industrial Average .DJI fell 138.31 points, or 0.26%, to 52,498.70, the S&P 500 .SPX lost 59.92 points, or 0.79%, to 7,515.47 and the Nasdaq Composite .IXIC lost 408.43 points, or 1.55%, to 25,873.18.
Among the 11 major sectors of the S&P 500, tech shares .SPLRCT suffered the biggest percentage loss, while energy led the gainers.
Declining issues outnumbered advancers by a 1.63-to-1 ratio on the NYSE. There were 152 new highs and 190 new lows on the NYSE.
On the Nasdaq, 1,592 stocks rose and 3,178 fell as declining issues outnumbered advancers by a 2-to-1 ratio.
Volume on U.S. exchanges was 15.91 billion shares, compared with the 21.83 billion average for the full session over the last 20 trading days.
