US to launch $8 billion support program for farmers to offset diesel costs, Trump says
SPY•The U.S. Department of Agriculture will make $8 billion available for one-time payments to farmers to offset diesel costs and other modeled losses during the 2026 crop year.
1. Farm fuel payments
President Donald Trump said the Department of Agriculture will launch a harvest fuel relief program providing farmers with $8 billion to offset diesel costs during the harvest season. The department said the money would fund one-time payments to American farmers, with support calculated using a uniform formula to cover a portion of modeled losses during the 2026 crop year.
2. Election-season pledges
The Farm Service Agency will administer the payments. Trump’s announcement comes as Republicans seek to maintain support in farm states ahead of November’s midterm elections; he has also proposed $5,000 checks for adult citizens if Republicans retain control of Congress.
