US to reportedly lend $4.2 billion to Vistra to boost nuclear power output

The US will reportedly lend Vistra about $4.2 billion to boost its nuclear power generation, a person familiar with the matter said. Energy Secretary Chris Wright is expected to announce the loan Monday at Vistra’s nuclear plant in Ohio, the person said.
2. Planned plant upgrades
The loan would support uprates at least three of Vistra’s four nuclear stations. The increases can be made without new Nuclear Regulatory Commission licenses and may involve fuel changes or major plant modifications, such as replacing main turbines.
3. Vistra’s nuclear fleet
Vistra has six reactors at four US plants that generate more than 6.5 gigawatts of electricity, enough to power about 3.25 million homes. US power demand is growing, driven by expansion of AI data centers, transportation electrification and cryptocurrency mining.
