1. Bessent to miss meetings
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent will skip next week's annual meetings of the IMF and World Bank in Bangkok, Thailand, due to domestic engagements, a U.S. official said. The Treasury Department confirmed that Deputy Treasury Secretary Francis Brooke and Under Secretary for International Affairs Erin Browne will lead its delegation.
2. Delegation priorities
Treasury said U.S. officials would work with partners on policies and structural imbalances that have held back growth, and push for more transparency and more effective approaches to sovereign debt. The delegation will focus on helping countries facing debt distress restore stability and return to growth, while holding creditors and borrowers to clear and consistent standards.
3. Economic backdrop
The article said benchmark Treasury yields had surged to their highest levels in nearly 25 years and that an energy shock caused by the war in the Middle East had set back global growth. Bessent is expected to attend the G20 leaders summit in Miami in December.
