USTR Greer discussing US desire for diesel reserves release with European counterparts
USO•US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said he is discussing a possible release of diesel reserves with European counterparts, saying prices are higher in Europe and the US wants a collaborative response.
1. Greer raises reserve release
Greer said he discussed the idea with his French counterpart in Milwaukee and planned to deliver the same message to European Union trade chief Maros Sefcovic. He said some European countries are holding diesel reserves and should probably release some if they are experiencing a price spike.
2. Possible export restrictions
Asked about a report that the Trump administration had told France and Germany to release diesel reserves or face potential US diesel export restrictions, Greer confirmed discussions with his French counterpart. He said neither trade minister is an energy minister, but described the proposal as an idea from the US and said it would like a collaborative response.
