Vance says details of proposed Alaska LNG pipeline need to be worked out
XLE•Vice President JD Vance said the proposed Alaska LNG pipeline was expected to happen, but details with South Korea still needed to be worked out. South Korea plans to review the investment’s commercial viability after President Donald Trump announced a proposed $200 billion investment in U.S. projects, including the pipeline.
1. Pipeline details remain open
Vance said the long-planned Alaska liquefied natural gas pipeline was going to happen, while acknowledging that some details still needed to be worked out with South Korea. He said demand for American natural gas was strong and that he thought the project could be completed.
2. South Korea to review viability
South Korean Finance Minister Lee Hyoung-il said the government planned to review the investment’s commercial viability. Industry Minister Kim Jung-kwan said commercial viability was a prerequisite, while noting the project’s strategic value given energy supply disruptions caused by the Middle East conflict.
