Venture Global inks deals with GE Vernova, Baker Hughes for power expansion
VG•Venture Global signed agreements with GE Vernova and Baker Hughes covering up to 16 power-generation units, each rated at 720 megawatts. The units could support up to 10 gigawatts of compute capacity by the end of 2034, subject to customer commitments and market demand.
1. Power unit agreements
Venture Global said it signed deals with GE Vernova and Baker Hughes to support up to 16 new power-generation units, advancing plans for off-grid capacity that could serve AI data centers and its LNG operations. The agreements cover power-island units of 720 megawatts each, along with associated transformer equipment.
2. Timing and conditions
Venture Global said the units could support up to 10 gigawatts of compute capacity by the end of 2034, subject to customer commitments and market demand. It expects to place its first power-island order by the end of 2026 and plans to file its first permit applications this week. The gas-fired, combined-cycle units would operate behind the meter, without drawing on public power grids or water utilities.
3. Existing LNG operations
The company said any third-party data center development would be separate from and complementary to its LNG operations and would not affect existing LNG sales commitments. The planned capacity would add to the 4.5 gigawatts of gas-fired generation already powering its facilities in island mode.
