Veraxa Biotech expands FDA-aligned non-animal testing models, aiming to cut animal use in oncology R&D
VRXA•Veraxa Biotech outlined an ESG-linked shift to FDA-aligned New Approach Methodologies across its oncology R&D programs. Its ex vivo NSCLC panel used about 10 mice versus an estimated 200 or more for comparable in vivo efficacy work.
1. Testing strategy
Veraxa said its approach aims to reduce animal testing across oncology R&D and reliance on non-human primate toxicology studies, while targeting faster clinical progress, lower development costs and shorter timelines.
2. NSCLC panel
The company said an ex vivo NSCLC panel used about 10 mice, compared with an estimated 200 or more for comparable in vivo efficacy work, accelerating preclinical cycles. Veraxa positioned the shift as aligned with the FDA’s roadmap to phase down animal testing in drug development.
