Vertical Aerospace leads £3.4 million UK-backed program to develop high-power charging for electric aircraft
EVTL•Broader applications
Work is expected to extend beyond aviation, with potential applications across other electrified transport segments.
Funding and selection
Total investment is about GBP 3.4 million, including up to GBP 1.75 million in UK government funding, subject to grant completion.
The project was selected under the UK Department for Transport’s Zero Emission Flight Demonstrator program and announced at the Farnborough International Airshow.
UK-backed ECLiPSE program
Vertical Aerospace will lead the UK-backed ECLiPSE R&D program to develop high-power charging and liquid-cooling systems for electric aircraft.
The program targets faster aircraft turnaround, lower infrastructure costs, simpler installation, improved charging performance, smaller systems and lower long-term operating costs.
