Viasat, Space42 partner with Terrestar to link satellite networks for direct-to-device services
VSAT•Viasat, Space42 and Terrestar Solutions signed a memorandum of understanding to develop interoperability between Equatys and Canada's planned CaStar satellite constellation. The proposed framework would support global direct-to-device services while each operator retains control of its assets.
1. Proposed network link
The companies said the framework would connect CaStar with Equatys for global direct-to-device and advanced mobile satellite services. CaStar would remain a sovereign Canadian system, keeping domestic data within Canadian jurisdiction while connecting globally through Equatys.
2. Costs and commitments
The companies said open standards are expected to reduce capital and operating costs through shared satellite resources. Equatys was established under a September 2026 binding agreement backed by up to $1 billion in combined equity commitments.
