Viper Energy appoints John Grotzinger to board, expands directors to nine
VNOM•Board expansion and new appointment
Viper Energy expanded its board to nine directors on Sept. 15, 2026, naming geologist and planetary scientist John Grotzinger.
Grotzinger is the Harold Brown Professor of Geology at Caltech and previously led its Geological and Planetary Sciences division.
He served as chief scientist for NASA’s Mars Science Laboratory Curiosity rover mission from 2007 to 2014.
Grotzinger was not appointed to any board committee.
