Visa to Acquire Prisma and Newpay, Adding 6 Billion Transactions in Argentina

VV

Visa agreed to acquire Argentine payment processors Prisma Medios de Pago and Newpay from Advent International, adding support for over six billion annual transactions and the Banelco ATM network. The deal, expected to close in Visa’s fiscal Q2 2026, aims to enable tokenisation, biometric authentication and intelligent risk tools.

1. Acquisition Agreement

Visa signed a definitive agreement to acquire Argentine payments platforms Prisma Medios de Pago and Newpay from Advent International, with closing expected in its fiscal Q2 2026, subject to customary conditions.

2. Platform Capabilities and Volume

Prisma, formed in 2014 after merging Visa Argentina and Banelco, processes over six billion credit, debit and prepaid transactions annually for leading banks, while Newpay offers real-time payments, the Banelco ATM network and the PagoMisCuentas bill payment platform.

3. Strategic Technology Integration

Post-close, Visa plans to combine these platforms with its global network to deploy tokenisation, biometric authentication, intelligent risk tools and agentic commerce solutions aimed at improving speed, security and issuer services.

4. Exclusion of Payway and Financial Context

The deal excludes Payway, which remains owned by Advent-managed funds as an independent merchant acquirer; in fiscal Q1 2026 Visa reported net income of $10.9 billion, up 15% year-on-year.
