1. Quarterly results and outlook
Vital Farms swung to a third-quarter 2026 net loss of $6.46 million from a year-earlier profit, while net revenue fell 8% to $182.16 million, primarily because of unfavorable price and mix. Gross margin declined to 23.1% amid higher input and production costs and unfavorable sales mix; farmer contract amendments reduced volumes sent to breaker and wholesale channels, the biggest driver of sequential margin recovery. Management cut 2026 net revenue guidance to around $730 million, assuming no fourth-quarter holiday lift.
