- A survey of 615 operators found 88% had at least one outage in the past 12 months; 36% reported three or more.
- Outages were often extended: 86% took longer than 15 minutes; 35% lasted one to four hours.
- Fragmentation was widespread: 68% used multiple payment processors; about 50% managed four or more terminal models.
- Median annual compliance costs were $100,000-$250,000 for fuel retailers, rising to $1 million for larger operators.
- Investment intent was high: 89% would modernize payments within 24 months with clear ROI; 57% within 12 months.
