Vuzix Unveils 0.34cc LCoS Microdisplay, 0.7cc Light Engine AR Reference Designs

VUZIVUZI

At CES 2026, Vuzix and Himax introduced a reference design combining Himax’s 0.34cc HX7319FL 720×720 LCoS microdisplay with Vuzix’s 0.35mm waveguide for prescription-ready AR glasses. Vuzix and Avegant revealed a binocular AR platform integrating Avegant’s 0.7cc AG-30L3 light engine, Vuzix waveguides, and Quanta ODM production.

1. Strategic Partnership Expands AR Optics Portfolio

Vuzix Corporation has teamed with Himax Technologies to unveil a prescription-ready optical component reference design for augmented reality glasses at CES 2026. This collaboration combines Himax’s ultra-compact HX7319FL color-sequential LCoS microdisplay with Vuzix’s high-efficiency waveguide technology. The integrated solution targets OEMs and eyewear manufacturers, offering a standardized, scalable platform that supports prescription lenses and is optimized for power efficiency and lightweight all-day wear.

2. Advanced Specifications Highlight Manufacturing Readiness

The reference design delivers configurations ranging from a 30° field of view to over 1,000 nits of brightness within a compact architecture. Himax’s 720 × 720 resolution microdisplay measures just 0.34 cubic centimeters and weighs 0.79 grams, while Vuzix’s push-pull waveguide features a 0.35 mm thin plate design compatible with both glass and plastic substrates. The joint engineering effort emphasizes scalable nanoimprint lithography manufacturing processes and modular mechanical design to accelerate volume production.

3. Commercialization Path and Market Potential

Evaluation units and full engineering documentation will be made available to select OEM partners starting in the first quarter of 2026, with customization and integration support provided jointly by Vuzix and Himax. By delivering a production-ready optical module, the companies aim to shorten time-to-market for consumer and enterprise AR eyewear. Industry analysts estimate that scalable, prescription-ready form factors could drive AR device adoption rates by up to 25% in enterprise applications over the next two years.

4. Executive Insights Underpin Growth Strategy

Paul Travers, President and CEO of Vuzix, emphasized that the reference design underscores the company’s commitment to practical, manufacturable AR optics capable of scaling beyond prototypes. Himax Vice President Hsien Chang Tsai highlighted the project’s demonstration of ultra-small, low-power display engines integrated into complete optical solutions. Together, these endorsements signal Vuzix’s strategic focus on building a robust ecosystem of partners to capture a growing share of the global AR eyewear market.
