Research and development expenses increased to $3.028 million from $2.606 million, a 16% rise driven by higher headcount wage costs and depreciation on new manufacturing equipment. Selling and marketing stayed flat at $1.551 million, while general and administrative expenses declined 46% to $2.134 million due primarily to a $1.7 million drop in non-cash stock-based compensation.
3. Capacity Expansion Initiatives
During the quarter, Vuzix expanded its plant floor manufacturing capacity to support growing OEM, defense and waveguide development programs. Upgrades aim to improve throughput, reduce development cycle times, minimize changeovers and enable simultaneous management of multiple advanced production initiatives.
4. Strategic Focus and Outlook
Vuzix plans to diversify through ODM/OEM custom smart glasses programs, defense and government agency initiatives, and waveguide and display system partnerships. Management intends to leverage U.S.-based waveguide manufacturing and branded products to validate use cases and strengthen ecosystem relationships while continuing investments in hardware, AI and platform innovations.
