Wall St set for higher open as Anthropic's IPO filing sharpens AI focus
SPY•U.S. stocks were set to open higher on Monday after Anthropic's IPO filing drew attention to AI, with Dow futures up 0.4%, S&P 500 futures up 0.34% and Nasdaq 100 futures up 0.6%. Investors were also watching this week's earnings reports and the Federal Reserve's rate decision.
1. Stocks point higher
U.S. stocks were set to open higher as Anthropic's IPO filing drew investor attention ahead of a week dominated by corporate earnings and the Federal Reserve's interest-rate decision. Anthropic outlined ambitions to build AI systems capable of transforming the global economy while confronting the costs and challenges of developing the technology.
2. Earnings in focus
About a third of S&P 500 companies are scheduled to report earnings this week, including Alphabet, Microsoft and Amazon. Their results will be closely watched for signs that large AI investments are paying off. Meta said Monday it plans to raise up to $95 billion in equity to fund AI-related expansion; its shares were last down 0.7%.
3. Fed and AI spending
The Fed's rate decision is due Wednesday, with a pause widely expected after its September hike. Traders still see a December hike as firmly possible, and at least two 25-basis-point increases by mid-2027. Concerns about debt-funded AI spending have weighed on neocloud firms: CoreWeave and Nebius had each lost more than 30% of their market value in October, and fell 3.9% and 1.7%, respectively, in premarket trading.
