U.S. stocks open mixed
Wall Street indexes are having a quiet start to Friday's session with the Nasdaq Composite .IXIC barely higher, while the S&P 500 .SPX slips and the Dow industrials .DJI dips modestly as U.S. Treasury yields and crude oil futures rise.
A majority of the S&P 500's 11 major industry sectors are lower with materials .SPLRCM the biggest loser, down more than 1%. Communication Services .SPLRCL leads gainers with a 0.6% advance.
Technology .SPLRCT is around flat, and a mixed bag under the surface. The PHLX Semiconductor Index .SOX is up more than 1% while software and services .SPLRCIS is down more than 1%. Microsoft MSFT.O and Netflix NFLX.O are among the biggest drags on the S&P 500, while Broadcom AVGO.O and Alphabet GOOGL.O are the biggest boosts.
