Walmart elevated 3,000 pharmacy technician roles to operations team leads, boosting average hourly wages from $22 to $28. The retailer said the move supports its expanding digital and pharmacy healthcare services network, aiming to enhance service capacity and capture growing healthcare-margin opportunities.

1. Elevated Pharmacy Roles and Wage Increase

Walmart has reclassified 3,000 pharmacy technician positions as operations team lead roles, boosting the average hourly wage from $22 to $28. This 27% wage increase is part of a broader strategy to expand its digital and pharmacy healthcare services. The company plans to integrate telehealth consultations, same-day prescription delivery and in-store health kiosks in 500 locations by the end of fiscal 2026. Management projects these initiatives could drive a 5% uplift in pharmacy sales and improve same-store comp growth by approximately 20 basis points annually.

2. Major League Soccer Partnership Launches Weekly Showcase

Walmart and Major League Soccer have launched 'Walmart Saturday Showdown,' a weekly marquee match broadcast on Apple TV starting February 21, 2026. The program will feature enhanced camera angles, including 'Shot on iPhone' views, across five initial matchups such as LAFC vs. Inter Miami and Real Salt Lake vs. Seattle. Walmart will leverage stadium signage, in-store activations in 50 flagship markets and social-media highlight reels to engage 270 million weekly customers. The company expects this branding initiative to lift discretionary spend in grocery and apparel by mid-single digits over the next 12 months.

3. American Customer Satisfaction Survey Results

In the 2026 American Customer Satisfaction Retail and Consumer Shipping Study, Walmart scored 76 out of 100 in the Hypermarkets category, trailing Target (78), Meijer (81) and Fred Meyer (82). Its online multimarket platform scored 77, behind Amazon’s 82, while its supermarket division ranked 17th of 19 with a 75 score. Key drivers included website satisfaction, convenience of store hours, speed of checkout and freshness of produce. Although Walmart’s overall score rose 4% year-over-year, the survey suggests opportunities remain to enhance mobile app reliability and pickup accuracy to support long-term customer loyalty.

4. Accelerating AI Deployment to Improve Productivity

Walmart has accelerated AI adoption across its supply chain, e-commerce and in-store operations. The retailer now uses machine-learning algorithms in 2,500 locations for dynamic inventory replenishment, reducing out-of-stock incidents by 15% and cutting inventory carrying costs by an estimated $350 million annually. In e-commerce fulfillment centers, AI-driven pick-route optimization has increased order throughput by 12%. Management believes these efficiency gains could expand operating margins by up to 30 basis points in fiscal 2026, supporting sustained profitability despite competitive pricing pressures.
