Walmart seen posting higher rev, EPS in results due Thursday
WMT•Walmart expected to post higher quarterly revenue and EPS
Walmart Inc. shares were up 0.4% at $115.69 on Wednesday, with the retail giant seen posting higher revenue and EPS in its quarterly results, due before the bell on Thursday.
The company is expected to post second-quarter revenue of $186.77 billion, up from $177.40 billion in the year-ago quarter, and adjusted EPS of $0.74 versus $0.68 a year ago, according to LSEG.
Investors are likely to focus on consumer spending and growth in its high-margin ad business.
In May, the company maintained a conservative annual forecast, citing pressure on U.S. consumer spending from higher fuel costs.
In July, Walmart said it would cut prices on many summer barbecue favorites, including meat, chips, and soda, following a Truth Social post from President Donald Trump saying the retailer was doing so at his administration's request.
Investors are also keen to hear about Walmart Connect, the company's ad business.
Wall Street sentiment is bullish, with 39 "buy" ratings versus five "hold" ratings and no "sell" ratings on the stock, according to LSEG.
For the year to date, WMT shares are up about 4% compared with a roughly 11% gain in the Dow Jones industrial average in that period.
