WMT•Walmart is adding Subway meals to its 30-minute Express Delivery, starting in select stores across Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Texas. The fast-delivery service will roll out to about 1,400 stores by late summer, leveraging Walmart’s 4,600 U.S. locations and in-store restaurant footprint.
1. Express Delivery Expansion
Walmart has integrated Subway meals into its 30-minute express delivery service, initially launching in select stores across Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Texas. The service allows customers to order Subway items through Walmart’s app or website alongside groceries and general merchandise.
2. Subway Partnership Scale
Subway is the largest in-store restaurant tenant at Walmart, providing an established footprint. Walmart plans to extend the Subway delivery option to approximately 1,400 stores by late summer, leveraging the restaurants located within five miles of many store locations.
3. Strategic Delivery Integration
Management has indicated that this pilot could pave the way for adding more in-store restaurant partners to Walmart’s delivery platform. The expansion builds on investments in rapid fulfillment channels, which saw usage more than double over the past two years.
4. Competitive Impact
By offering restaurant meals alongside retail products with 30-minute turnaround, Walmart aims to enhance customer engagement and increase order frequency. The move positions the retailer to compete more directly with platforms like DoorDash and Uber Eats in the fast-delivery segment.
