1. Walmart Rolls Out One-Hour Delivery
On April 2, Sam’s Club launched a one-hour delivery option across 600 stores, fulfilling 65,000 orders with an average delivery time of 55 minutes. The service charges a flat $10 fee for Plus members and $22 for Club members, with the fastest recorded deliveries under 12 minutes.
2. Order Composition and Fulfillment Model
Most express orders consist of essentials such as bottled water, produce, rotisserie chicken and paper goods. Walmart leverages its Spark driver network and in-house inventory systems to optimize real-time order selection and fulfillment from store shelves directly to customers’ doors.
3. Competitive Impact on Amazon
Walmart’s e-commerce now accounts for 23% of total sales and has surged 115.6% since 2022, outpacing Amazon’s 63.2% growth over the same period. Despite Amazon still holding a 56% share of US online retail, Walmart’s speed and fee structure could pressure Amazon’s market dominance and prompt faster delivery enhancements.
