Warriors' Porzingis stepping away from basketball to prioritize health
GS•Golden State Warriors centre Kristaps Porzingis said he is stepping away from basketball to prioritize his health, after his body did not respond as anticipated this season. He has not played this season and signed a two-year, $40 million extension with the Warriors this summer.
1. Health decision
Porzingis said Friday that he was stepping away from basketball to prioritize his health. “I'm doing good, but I know what it takes, and I'm not where I want to be to perform at the level that I expect from myself,” he said.
2. Season status
Golden State had previously said Porzingis would be sidelined indefinitely because of an undisclosed health issue, then said on October 21 that he would not be with the team for “the immediate future.” Acquired in a February trade, he missed training camp and the start of preseason and has not played a game this season.
3. Warriors contract
Porzingis signed a two-year, $40 million extension with the Warriors this summer. He said he would work with the team to “find a solution that makes sense.”
