Warsh says politics played no role in Fed rate decision; he is 'honored' to lead
TLT•Fed Chair Kevin Warsh said politics played no role in the decision to hold the policy rate at 3.75%-4.00%. He said policymakers will have more data in coming weeks to assess whether to raise rates in December.
1. Fed holds rates steady
The Federal Reserve left its policy rate unchanged in a range of 3.75%-4.00% after a two-day meeting. Warsh said he was “honored” to lead the policymakers and that politics played no role in their decision.
2. December decision ahead
Warsh said coming weeks would bring data that could leave policymakers “better positioned” to decide in December whether to raise rates. He described the period as “information-rich,” but said it would have “nothing to do” with politics.
3. One dissent on the hold
Fed Governor Lisa Cook dissented, preferring a quarter-point rate hike; the other 10 rate-setters supported holding rates. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said he and President Donald Trump have “great confidence” in Warsh.
