Wedbush Maintains Underperform Rating on Instacart with $36 Target

CARTCART

Wedbush analysts reiterated an Underperform rating on Instacart, setting a $36 price target while citing moderating order growth and soft pricing dynamics that could erode market share. The firm warned that uncertainty and competition from Amazon and Walmart limit upside potential as Instacart prepares to report Q4 results Feb. 12.

1. Instacart Unveils “Bananas” Super Bowl Commercial with Preference Picker

Instacart is set to air its second Super Bowl spot, “Bananas,” on February 8, directed by Spike Jonze and starring Ben Stiller alongside Benson Boone. The 30-second ad unfolds on a 60-foot LED stage, where the duo engages in a retro disco-pop rivalry over selecting bananas using Instacart’s new Preference Picker feature. The spot culminates in a spectacular onstage crash and closes with the tagline “Bananas just how you like,” highlighting the feature’s ability to let customers choose ripeness levels from “Not Ripe” to “Ripe.”

2. Preference Picker Drives Grocery Quality Control and Customer Engagement

Preference Picker is the latest addition to Instacart’s Grocery Quality Controls suite, which already includes real-time Inventory Check, Shopper Notes, Replacement Preferences, Smart Backup and Second Store Check. Since launch, bananas have emerged as the No. 1 selling product on the platform, with over 1.8 billion bananas delivered and more than 32 million Shopper Notes specifying ripeness and other details. Instacart plans to extend ripeness selection options to avocados and add deli meat thickness controls later this year.

3. Analyst Community Urges Caution on Instacart Growth Prospects

Ahead of fourth-quarter results, several equity research teams have flagged potential headwinds for Instacart, citing intensifying competition from omnichannel players and signs of moderating order growth. While delivery segment performance remains solid, concerns center on softer pricing dynamics and the risk that market-share gains could slow. Investors are watching upcoming earnings guidance closely for visibility on revenue trajectory, margin trends and the pace of in-app innovation adoption.
