Wells Fargo joins bank consortium for USD stablecoin venture
Wells Fargo joined 20 other financial institutions to form a new stablecoin enterprise, targeting launch of a USD-denominated stablecoin.
The group plans to establish the new company in H2 2026, subject to closing conditions.
Go-to-market is targeted for H1 2027, with longer-term plans to add other G7-currency stablecoins, prioritizing EUR.
The stablecoin is positioned for cross-border payments and digital asset settlement, aiming for bank-grade compliance, governance, distribution, risk management.
The initiative targets compliance with the GENIUS Act and MiCA, where applicable.
