Wells Fargo Launches $10M Housing Challenge Offering $2M to Five Innovators

Wells Fargo has launched the 2026 Housing Affordability Breakthrough Challenge, offering $10 million in grants to five scalable housing innovation organizations, plus technical assistance and one-on-one mentorship. The bank has invested $53 million in this program since 2019, part of its $830 million housing commitment to expand affordable homes.

1. Initiative Launch and Funding

Wells Fargo has initiated the 2026 Housing Affordability Breakthrough Challenge, allocating $10 million in grant funding. Five organizations will each receive $2 million alongside technical assistance and industry mentorship to scale innovative housing solutions.

2. Application Details and Eligibility

Applications for the challenge open April 1, 2026 and close May 15, 2026. Nonprofit and for-profit entities proposing proven models in design & construction, finance or service delivery are eligible, provided they demonstrate existing results and a clear scaling strategy.

3. Historical Philanthropic Investments

Since 2019, Wells Fargo and its foundation have contributed over $53 million to this initiative, as part of a broader $830 million investment in affordable housing. Past winners have piloted modular construction, new underwriting models and programs serving tribal, rural and reentry communities.
