WeRide and Uber launched fully driverless Robotaxi operations in Dubai’s Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim districts, allowing riders to book Level 4 vehicles through the Uber app with Tawasul managing the fleet. The Roads and Transport Authority endorsed the service as part of Dubai’s plan for 25% autonomous journeys by 2030.

1. Service Launch

WeRide and Uber began fully driverless Robotaxi fare-charging operations in Dubai’s Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim districts, offering Level 4 vehicles bookable in the Uber app without onboard safety drivers.

2. Regulatory Endorsement

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority issued a driverless trial permit in February 2026 and endorsed the launch to support the emirate’s target of 25% autonomous journeys by 2030.

3. Operational Partnerships

Tawasul will manage the Robotaxi GXR fleet on the Uber platform, while Uber’s 5.82% stake in WeRide Class A shares underscores its strategic commitment.

4. Growth and Profitability Outlook

With over 200 Robotaxis operating in the Middle East, WeRide and Uber aim to deploy at least 1,200 vehicles across Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Riyadh by 2030, building on regional operational profitability achieved since 2025.
