Western Union wins NYDFS approval for Intermex deal after California regulator suspends extension
WU•Regulatory approvals and next steps
Western Union secured New York State Department of Financial Services clearance for its pending acquisition of Intermex.
California’s Department of Financial Protection and Innovation suspended an approval extension granted on July 31 for the deal. The California agency cited a need for further review given six months since the original approval, including operational impact in-state.
Western Union aims to work with the California regulator to reinstate clearance, then close the transaction once remaining conditions are met.
