Westport-Volvo JV Cespira unveils HPDI 3.0 fuel system upgrades boosting fuel economy

Westport Fuel Systems’ Cespira joint venture disclosed HPDI 3.0 technical upgrades to its high-pressure direct injection fuel system.

The new rail-pressure control architecture targets better fuel economy, higher performance, simpler OEM calibration, higher injection pressure, and future emissions compliance.

Injector dynamic sealing technology aims to extend component life, while the modular design increases packaging flexibility across engine layouts.

The system supports LNG and bioLNG, and the architecture keeps an adaptation pathway for hydrogen as markets develop.

Production is scheduled for Q4 2026, and first HPDI 3.0 vehicles are expected in early 2027.
