Wolfe Research Cuts Shopify to Peer Perform as ReturnPro Unveils Free Returns App

SHOPSHOP

Wolfe Research downgraded Shopify to peer perform from outperform, noting share resistance at a downward ceiling despite strong year-to-date gains. Separately, ReturnPro launched a free end-to-end Returns Portal App on Shopify App Store, offering merchants automated reverse logistics and potential new revenue streams.

1. Options Corner: SHOP Struggles with Downgrade

Wolfe Research this week adjusted its rating on Shopify from Outperform to Peer Perform as part of its broader reassessment of internet stocks. Analyst Rick Ducat highlighted that despite Shopify’s 45% gain over the past 12 months, the shares have repeatedly failed to break through a downward price ceiling near their 200-day moving average. Wolfe now projects slower revenue growth for Shopify in the coming quarters, forecasting a year-over-year top-line increase of 22% in Q1 compared with management’s guidance of 28%. The firm pointed to intensifying competition in the e-commerce platform market and slowing merchant additions as primary headwinds. Volume on Shopify’s options market has surged 30% since the downgrade announcement, underscoring elevated investor hedging activity ahead of the company’s next earnings release.

2. ReturnPro Launches Shopify App Offering End-to-End Returns Capabilities

ReturnPro has introduced its Returns Portal App on the Shopify App Store, providing merchants with a fully integrated reverse logistics and ReCommerce solution. The app connects front-end returns initiation to backend processes, including inspection, refurbishment and resale, through a network of more than 1,000 drop-off locations and 12 processing centers across North America. Merchants can manage returns via a centralized dashboard that supports exchanges, refunds and “keep it” policies, while leveraging automated relisting to over 20 integrated resale marketplaces. ReturnPro reports that pilot users reduced write-offs by an average of 18% and increased recovered revenue by 12% within three months of deployment. There is no subscription fee; Shopify merchants only incur charges when items are received into the ReturnPro system.
