Woodside Capital says 40%+ of agentic AI projects face cancellation by end-2027
XLK•Woodside Capital sees cancellation risk rising
Woodside Capital Partners says more than 40% of agentic AI projects are likely to be canceled by the end of 2027 as costs rise and the value proposition remains unclear.
The firm’s analysis comes as enterprise interest in generative AI remains high, but deployment economics are increasingly under scrutiny.
MIT research and report thesis point to shifting spending
The report cites MIT research showing USD 30-40 billion spent on enterprise GenAI, with 95% of organizations seeing zero return and only 5% reporting millions in value.
Woodside Capital says the key constraint is the “cost of context,” and argues that M&A demand should shift toward semantic, retrieval, governance infrastructure and context-operating MSPs. The thesis points to a consolidation wave as budgets from failed deployments move to vendors able to deliver governed, durable enterprise context at lower cost.
